Ingredients
- 8 medium tart baking apples
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup boiling water, or enough to cover the bottom of the dish
- Optional cream, for serving

Heat the oven to 400°F.

Wash and core the apples without cutting through the bottom. Arrange in a baking dish.

Mix the sugar and cinnamon and divide it among the apple cavities.

Pour enough boiling water into the dish to cover the bottom by about 1/4 inch.

Bake for 35–45 minutes, basting every 10 minutes with the syrup in the dish, until tender but still holding shape.

Serve warm or cold, with cream if desired.
